    Patrick
    6 Nov 2009 | 5:21 pm
Two injury related notes on this Friday evening. Going into the season, I really thought this might be the year Kevin Martin rose above his muddled injury history and strung together 75+ games. The lesson, as always, is that I’m an over-optimistic, magic bean buying idiot. Martin, who fractured his left wrist on Monday when he got tangled up with Allen Iverson (the destroyer of fantasy performers league-wide), has opted for surgery to repair the injury after talking with doctors today. The procedure will keep him sidelined for at least 8 weeks, or a good 25 games. Beno Udrih will likely…
  • Day 10 of 170: Don’t Forget, Carlos Boozer Still Plays For The Jazz

    Nels
    6 Nov 2009 | 7:28 am
Line of the Night: Boozer (1.26) put up 27 and 14 with 2 steals and 2 blocks. Of course, my thinking immediately goes to: Showcase! If the Jazz are still shopping him, I bet that any teams that wanted him are kicking themselves for not getting him before the season started. Honorable Mentions: Deron Williams (0.88) had 27/7/9 with a steal and a block. John Salmons owners can breathe a sigh of relief as Salmons made 46% of his field goals. Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Anthony Parker (0.70) made 3 threes, to go with some other fairly pedestrian numbers. But, he’s only owned in 30% of…
  • Day 9 of 170: Chris Paul Walks Tall

    Patrick
    5 Nov 2009 | 3:40 am
Line of the Night: Chris Paul (1.45). I can’t put it any better than At the Hive… Chris Paul is just good at basketball. So good it makes my stomach tingle. Paul became the third fastest player to 3,000 assists last Monday and followed up that performance with a 39 point, 5 rebound, 7 assist game in an overtime win against the Mavs. Paul also added a couple steals and 3 threes. Honorable Mentions: Nothing better than an overtime to pad those fantasy stats. David West (1.09) used the Hornets/Mavs OT game to score 25 point with 10 boards and 3 steals; Monta Ellis (1.03) put up a 24/7/12/5…
  • Day 8 of 170: Dirk For MVP

    Nels
    4 Nov 2009 | 6:37 am
Fantasy MVP, of course. Line of the Night: Dirk Nowitzki (2.23) took home the first 2+ of the season only 8 days in by scoring 29 points in the 4th quarter last night. It’s like he was playing a game of Texas Hold Em for the first 3 quarters and finally went all in. Oddsmakers are now projecting him to be this year’s fantasy MVP. Okay, not really, but I bet people who passed over him with the 7th pick are kicking themselves now. Why? Well, besides ending with 40 total, he also had 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and 5 blocks. Did he turn the ball over even once? Nein! Gong show!
  • Day 7 of 170: The New York Knicks: Your Natural Fantasy Enhancement

    Patrick
    3 Nov 2009 | 5:39 am
Line of the Night: Points may be overrated by many casual fantasy owners, but sometimes it really just is about how many times you can put the ball through the hoop. Last night Kevin Martin (1.36) dropped 48 points on the Grizzlies in an overtime win, hitting 7 of the 10 threes he took and adding 4 steals. Unfortunately, he was also a very Kevin Martin-unlike 13-18 from the line. As I’ve said before, Martin is money as long as he’s healthy. With legs like that, no wonder he can’t stay healthy Honorable Mentions: Chris Paul (1.34) scored 32 points himself while adding 13 assists and…

    6 Nov 2009 | 8:55 pm
While there aren’t a lot of great matchups for fantasy defense in Week 9, there are definitely a few that stand out from the pack. Here’s a look at the Week 9 fantasy defense rankings. 1. Green Bay Packers The Packers are a very solid defense. Add in the fact that they are going against Josh Freeman and the Buccaneers and you have the makings of a great start. 2. New Orleans Saints In the fantasy world, the Saints defense might be the best of the best. Their aggressive style puts fantasy points on the board. Against the Panthers, they should cause havoc. 3. Seattle Seahawks The…

Going with an overrated fantasy football player can make the difference between a victory and a loss. Here’s a look at some overrated players for Week 9 of the 2009 fantasy football season. QB Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys Although Tony Romo is playing very well as of late, the Cowboys tend to struggle in Philadelphia. Don’t be too high on him solely based on his recent play. RB Pierre Thomas, New Orleans Saints Pierre Thomas is scoring touchdowns but he’s quietly losing his grip on the running back job in New Orleans. Mike Bell is getting more than a fair share of carries and…

    2 Nov 2009 | 8:55 pm
As we venture into Week 9, there are a few fantasy football waiver wire pickups worth a mention. If these guys are available on your fantasy league’s waiver wire and you need to fill a gap, sign these fantasy sleepers and be confident in their production. QB Alex Smith, San Francisco 49ers Alex Smith was decent in his first start of the season against the tough Colts. Against the Titans in Week 9, Smith is very much a sleeper. He could be huge. RB Ryan Moats, Houston Texans The Texans were mad at Steve Slaton for his fumbling. They gave Ryan Moats a shot and he scored three touchdowns.

While there weren’t too many huge performances in Week 8 of the 2009 fantasy football season, there were a few that are worth mentioning. Here’s a look at the best fantasy football performances on Sunday. QB Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers Although Brett Favre will get all the attention, Aaron Rodgers actually had fantasy owners smiling even brighter after the game. Despite a plethora of pressure, Rodgers had 287 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and more than 50 yards rushing. RB Chris Johnson, Tennessee Titans Chris Johnson has been all or nothing this year. Week 8 was…
  • Devin Harris Injury Update – Groin

    31 Oct 2009 | 8:33 pm
Devin Harris of the New Jersey Nets injured his right groin recently and will be sidelined at least about a week. He’s going to visit a specialist and there’s a chance he could be out for a while. The first game he missed was Saturday night against the Washington Wizards. In the first two games of the season, Harris had 30 points, 15 assists and 11 rebounds. However, his fantasy basketball value was limited because he shot only 32.3% from the field, missed all four of his three-point attempts and hit just 71.4% of his free throws. With Harris out, the fantasy basketball point…

A guy that got drafted very highly after not being a main threat in college. Obviously never going to be a guy that scores well into the double-digits, but clearly has some value as a rebounder and shot blocker. With Thomas hurt I expect him to see a small jump in minutes. The wait is over as the first two days of the 2009-2010 NBA season is over and done. We saw strong teams get beaten, players coming back (Mr. Arenas!), rookies who don’t play like one and more and more exciting plays. It’s just exciting isn’t it? So here are some of our thoughts from the first two days. The Cleveland Cavaliers are 0-2 after losing to the Boston Celtics and the Toronto Raptors. Lebron James has been fantastic in the first two games but we still think that their lineup isn’t that strong this year even with Shaq and new addition Anthony Parker around. The…

The 2008-2009 season has been over for months now and it’s time to move on to the next. This includes the players with their new teams, new trades and even the 2009-2010 NBA rookies. While everyone has been talking about Blake Griffin and Ricky Rubio and how weak this draft is compared with other drafts, I couldn’t help but search the top plays for the rookies of last year. These plays seem to be really nice but not that awesome and I wonder if this year’s rookie class can show us more highlights. Rubio behind the back pass (if he plays)? Andrew Thell
    5 Nov 2009 | 5:52 am
Ranks Preview by Andrew Thell This week’s running back rankings are some of the most challenging of the season. In addition to the usual bye-week woes we’ve got a number of backfields in flux. Most notable is in Houston, where Steve Slaton was benched for the game after fumbling on his first carry a week ago. Ryan Moats stepped in and simply shredded the predictably poor Bills on the ground to the tune of 23 carries for 126 yards (5.5 YPC) and 3 TDs. It was Buffalo, but the impressive effort cannot be denied – especially when you factor in Moats far superior ball security to…

Vincent Jackson Photo Credit: Icon SMI Ranks Preview by Andrew Thell We felt obligated to rank Austin Collie ahead of Pierre Garcon given his larger production the last few weeks, and Collie is an excellent play this week against a questionable Houston defense. He’s the better, safer play. However, this matchup just screams big game for Garcon. We made a call on Vernon Davis against this D a few weeks ago for many of the same reasons we like Garcon here: they’re susceptible deep and up the seams and have trouble with explosive, straight-line speed in the secondary. It worked out…
